McDermott International was looking to keep their current branding but refresh their image and connect with a younger audience at the 2013 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, TX. This conference has been the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection since 1969. McDermott knew they needed to modernize their outdated exhibit as well as make it scalable in order to satisfy a number of configurations for their national and international show schedules.
In order to accomplish McDermott’s expandable goals and show off a new image at OTC, DisplayWorks’ Irvine and Houston offices teamed up to design and produce a modern, multi-configurable 50’x50′ island display that definitely stood out from the crowd. Center models featuring thick frosted flex planks as bases that were illuminated by LED lighting that gave the space an oceanic feel. To spark customer interaction, the exhibit boasted a fully equipped hospitality bar and casual seating that surrounded elegant display models highlighting McDermott ships and platforms. Inlaid flooring treatments became visual references to subsea vessel decks which provided an element of authenticity while minimal color usage provided a neutral palette for dynamic graphic treatments.
The timing for this new exhibit and image refresh couldn’t have been better – attendance at this year’s OTC show reached a 30-year high, the second highest turnout in its history.
